Meet Melinda Liu.
A longtime Northwood resident, Melinda understands Irvine not just as a policymaker, but as a neighbor, parent, and community volunteer. Her approach to leadership is practical, inclusive, and focused on delivering results for residents.
Councilmember Melinda Liu proudly serves Irvine as the City Council representative for District 1, bringing principled leadership, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to community service. Elected in 2024, she made history as Irvine’s first Taiwan-born Chinese-American woman on the City Council, reflecting the city’s diversity and its future.
Delivering Results for Irvine
Since taking office, Councilmember Liu has been a strong advocate for policies that protect Irvine’s quality of life while preparing the city for long-term success. Her accomplishments include:
Improving public safety and walkability by supporting transportation initiatives such as expanded Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) at intersections, enhancing safety for pedestrians, seniors, and families.
Strengthening community engagement, including helping launch Irvine’s first Flag Day celebration at City Hall, honoring veterans, active-duty service members, and civic leaders.
Amplifying resident voices at City Hall, ensuring that neighborhood concerns, small business needs, and family priorities are heard and reflected in city decisions.
Advocating for responsible governance, guided by her professional background as an attorney, real estate broker, and certified mediator, bringing thoughtful analysis and balanced solutions to complex issues.
Rooted in Service, Ready to Lead
Before joining the City Council, Melinda spent decades serving Irvine through school organizations, youth programs, nonprofit leadership, and community advocacy. That hands-on experience shapes her belief that local government works best when it listens first and acts responsibly.
Her priorities remain clear:
Public safety and infrastructure
Economic opportunity and fiscal responsibility
Strong neighborhoods and family-friendly policies
Inclusive representation and transparent government
